CNET Networks UK unveils new look for flagship CNET.co.uk site

Video takes centre stage on improved CNET.co.uk home page
New technology enables editors to alter layout of homepage designs

CNET Networks UK, the UK's largest* online-only publisher, has unveiled a fresh new look for www.CNET.co.uk, its flagship consumer technology reviews website.

Following a surge in demand for video, editorial and UGC content across the website, the new homepage is designed to improve navigation and signposting to give users faster access to video, news, reviews or blogs.

Taking centre stage on the home page is an improved video media player that supports both 4:3 and widescreen video. The new player allows advertisers to dynamically place adverts before, during or after the video content on the site in both the 4:3 and widescreen formats. The current Ford Mondeo "Feel the Difference" video campaign runs as a 9 second pre-roll before a series of product reviews.

The revised home page also gives CNET.co.uk editors the ability to choose from a number of different layout designs. This means they have the flexibility to alter the look of the page to highlight the most popular content at the time - such as Crave TV, Crave Podcasts, the Editors' Blogs or a particular product review.

The clickable tabs at the top of the page take visitors directly to top stories as well as the latest tech news, reviews and downloads.

Overall, the freshened up home page design is lighter and more modern, allowing advertisers and sponsors to stand out without disrupting the user experience.

Under the bonnet there is a raft of improvements that speed up the user experience and improve CNET.co.uk's search engine optimisation.

Michael Parsons, site director, CNET.co.uk, said:"We've updated the website to ensure that we're helping our users get the most out of CNET.co.uk's content. The new format also means we can capitalise on user demand for more video and offer advertisers innovative and engaging sponsorship opportunities."

According to comScore MediaMetrix, May 2007, CNET Networks UK websites attracted a 28.9% share of the total UK online population.

CNET Networks UK sites include: www.CNET.co.uk, GameSpot UK, www.silicon.com, www.ZDNet.co.uk, and www.atlarge.com.
