Video takes centre stage on improved CNET.co.uk home page

CNET Networks UK, the UK's biggest* online-only publisher, has unveiled a fresh new look for CNET.co.uk, its flagship consumer technology reviews website. With the growth of the content available on the website, the new homepage was designed to make the popular features more accessible to visitors and to maximise user engagement.

Taking centre stage on the home page is an improved video player that supports both 4:3 and widescreen video without black bars.  Within the video player exists an MPU ad format that gives advertisers greater exposure.  The current Ford Mondeo "Feel the Difference" video campaign runs as a pre-roll before a series of product reviews.

The flexible page layout ensures that the newest and most popular content is always given pride of place – featured content includes the Crave Podcasts (http://crave.cnet.co.uk/podcast/) and the Editors' Blogs. The clickable tabs at the top of the page take visitors directly to top stories as well as the latest tech news, reviews and downloads.
Overall, the freshened up home page design is lighter and more modern, allowing advertisers and sponsors to stand out without disrupting the user experience.

Under the bonnet there is a raft of improvements that speed up the user experience and improve CNET.co.uk's search engine optimisation.
