Jill Orr Appointed managing Director of CNET Networks UK
Senior Executive takes over the reigns at UK’s largest online-only publisher*
Jill Orr has been appointed managing director of CNET Networks UK, the UK's largest online-only publisher. Jill, formerly head of consumer media for CNET Networks UK, will report directly to Adam Power, president, international media at CNET Networks Inc.
Jill takes overall responsibility for the strategic direction of CNET Networks UK, which includes several market-leading business and consumer titles that appeal to a broad range of people – from avid and knowledgeable contributors to smart consumers. Its titles currently reach nearly a third of the total UK online population and include publications such as ZDNet.co.uk, silicon.com, CNET.co.uk and GameSpot UK.
Orr was appointed head of consumer media in 2005 and was responsible for the launches of CNET.co.uk in 2005 and GameSpot UK in 2006. She joined CNET Networks in 1998 as business development director for Europe. After five years in that role she moved to head up product development for the UK business where she led the re-launches of silicon.com and ZDNet.co.uk in 2003.
Prior to working for CNET Networks UK, Jill was based in San Francisco and worked for technology news publisher IDG, leading the development of its online advertising network.
Jill Orr says: "If you're into technology in the UK then the chances are you look at a CNET Networks' website every week. We've grown from a single business information website into the UK's biggest online-only publisher and no other digital publisher can match our sustained growth over the past ten years.
"Its well documented that online media has shifted from monologue to dialogue – its very exciting to be involved in the industry at a time when it's becoming genuinely interactive, when the platform is starting to support much more creative content solutions and during a period of such rapid change for journalism and the journalist's role in the dialogue."
Jill takes over as managing director from Tom Bureau, who stepped down from the role at the end of June.
