Paul Coby, British Airways chief information officer (CIO), has been confirmed as the keynote speaker for the fourth silicon.com CIO Forum in October.

The silicon.com CIO Forum will this year tackle the IT talent challenge head on, helping senior CIOs find and keep the brightest people in IT. Through probing interviews, provocative panel sessions and inspiring keynotes, the talent management secrets of the most successful UK CIOs and their specialist advisors will be revealed.
Coby, who was recently voted the UK's most influential CIO in silicon.com's 2007 CIO50 List, will speak at the conference explaining how great people are the key to IT success, but, as the market peaks, recruiting and keeping talented IT professionals becomes ever more difficult. Coby will reveal how he overcame the IT talent challenges British Airways faces.

Other confirmed speakers include:

  • Tania Howarth, CIO, Birds Eye Group
  • John Suffolk, UK Government CIO
  • Ben Wishart, CIO, Whitbread

Highlights of the programme include:

  • Tackling the talent gap at all levels - from graduate recruitment to building the fit for purpose IT management team
  • Breaking the contracting loop, without breaking the bank - how clever CIOs can keep talent in house when contracting opportunities beckon
  • The role of outsourcing in the global talent market - does outsourcing offer an effective shortcut to overseas' talent?
  • Making your next career move, managing the succession process and securing early wins in your new role

Tony Hallett, site director for silicon.com, said: "UK PLCs are under pressure to attract and retain the best IT teams. CIOs must adapt and learn additional skills to stay one step ahead of their competitors. The silicon.com CIO Forum will arm senior IT people with that knowledge."

In its fourth year, the silicon.com CIO Forum provides an opportunity to meet and network with the UK's top CIOs. Speakers and delegates alike praise the quality of event content. And with new "live" research during the conference, delegates will be able to benchmark their approach to talent management with their peers.

The silicon.com CIO Forum takes place on 15 October 2007 at The Radisson Edwardian, Mayfair, London.
