CNET Networks UK boosts CNET.co.uk editorial team with senior appointments and reviews reporter
CNET.co.uk poaches editors from the BBC and Future Publishing
Competition winner hired as reviews writer
CNET Networks UK, the UK's largest online-only publisher, is expanding its consumer editorial team, raiding the BBC and Future Publishing for two senior CNET.co.uk staff, and hiring a CNET.co.uk competition winner as a reviewer.
CNET.co.uk, the online guide to personal technology and digital living, has appointed Jason Jenkins as reviews editor. Jenkins will not only write and commission editorial, but will also manage a team of four product reviewers and oversee the entire product-review process.
Prior to CNET.co.uk, Jenkins was deputy editor of T3 magazine, where he worked for four years and rose from the position of news editor. Before T3, Jenkins was reviews editor of Personal Computer World.
Ian Morris has been appointed TV editor, in charge of the TV and DVD & PVR sections of CNET.co.uk. Morris is responsible for sourcing and writing reviews, writing for the Crave gadget blog, and commissioning digital living features.
Prior to CNET.co.uk, Morris was at the BBC for six years, where he worked on the online versions of Top Gear, Crimewatch and Children in Need. During this time he also worked on the Horizon, Tomorrow's World and Walking with Beasts Web sites.
The reviews team has also been boosted with the appointment of Nate Lanxon as MP3 & Digital Music reviewer. Nate was hired after he entered a competition on CNET.co.uk to win tickets to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. His winning entry, a video of him doing a mobile phone review, impressed the judges so much that not only did he win the Golden Ticket but landed a job at CNET.co.uk.
Jill Orr, head of consumer media at CNET Networks UK, said, "The recent CNET.co.uk ABCE results show we're reaping the benefits of our investment in editorial. Now with Jason, Ian and Nate on board, we can further boost our output and give our readers more of the trusted, interactive content they love. All three are talented journalists and will bring complementary skills to the team."
Launched in June 2005, CNET.co.uk has quickly become the number one source for expert product reviews and price comparisons on the latest technology developments, supported by special reports, help and how-to guides. The site features comprehensive video coverage and a vibrant user community.
The first ABC Electronic audit for the 18-month-old CNET.co.uk reveals 1,343,447* unique users generating 7,055,330 page impressions. CNET.co.uk has more than five times the number of unique users as its closest UK competitors' online editions combined – Stufftv.com, stuffmagazine.com (combined unique users 95,000**) and T3.co.uk (163,000**).
