Security Worries Voiced at the Mobility Summit
Security remains one of the major concerns for any enterprise mobility deployment and has become an arms race, American Express's vice president of technologies told delegates at the Mobility Summit in London on Monday.
"It's a huge concern and very much an arms race," said David Kemper, who claimed that "software that won't run on encrypted databases is not going to sell".
Kemper also suggested that the advantages of "being able to avoid bolting everything down" were too great to ignore, meaning that the days of "the old moat and wall defences" in network security were over.
The comments were made during a panel discussion on mobility's role within the enterprise, as conducted between Kemper and representatives from Intel, Boehringer Ingelheim and London Waste.
Other interesting points to come from the discussion included a surprising degree of disagreement over the importance of return on investment (ROI) when deploying mobility, and diverse thoughts on the hidden costs of user training.
