Key technology issues for the public sector debated at the Government UK IT Summit

The UK's leading public sector IT directors come together to debate how IT will determine the future of local and central government.

The European Technology Forum, a part CNET Networks UK, today announced the Government UK IT summit is to take place on 8 and 9 May 2006 at the Victoria Park Plaza, London.

Now firmly established as the must-attend event in the public sector IT calendar, the Government UK IT Summit attracts more than 500 delegates representing all sectors of local and central government.

Entitled "How will IT transform government?", this year's conference will examine the key issues influencing eGovernment strategy with comprehensive analysis of questions such as:

  • How can customer-led services be developed?
  • Will government truly be transformed through IT?
  • What tangible results can be expected from the output of the Strategy for Transformational Government?

The two-day event features a mixture of prominent keynote speakers, expert panel debates and case studies to highlight pioneering eGovernment. Speaker and programme highlights include:

John Blundell, Director, Service Transformation and Local Government, eGovernment Unit, will look at how local authorities should respond to the Transformational Government Strategy.

Richard Granger, Director General, NHS IT, will discuss the complexities of large-scale programmes.

Stephen Hickey, Director General, DVO Group, Department for Transport, will examine whether it is truly possible to transform government using IT.

Steve Hodgson, Head of Shared Services, HM Prison Service, will be discussing the impact shared services will have on customers.

David Myers, Director of Shared Services, eGovernment Unit, will look at how to maximise the benefits of shared services.

Roger Thayne, Chief Executive, Staffordshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, will discuss the effect of mobility on the ambulance service.
